Kidney Transplant Care

Your Nephrologist will work with you to carefully personalize the medications, foods, and habits you need for good kidney function. Transplant care is an ongoing process where both your transplant surgeon and nephrologist will be involved.

To help care for your kidney, you will need to:
• Take medications as directed
• Ask your doctor before taking any other medications, including over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements
• Eat a healthy diet
• Avoid alcohol
• Do not smoke
• Contact your doctor if you are feeling ill, and avoid anyone with colds or infections
• See your doctor regularly to have your blood work and urine analysis done
